Your FGA board is a bunch of parents who, just like you, are dedicated to providing support, challenge, and encouragement for our gifted kids. We learn so much from you and our gifted community...here, you can learn a little more about us!
I’m Sheila Flaherty, your FGA President. I have two sons who are both identified as GT; a 7th grader and a 9th grader. We’ll be the guinea pigs for the new 9th/10th grade GT Humanities course, so ask me any questions about that!
When my oldest son was first identified by the district (although we had suspected for some time that he was gifted), I started reading and researching. I’d like to share with you one of the best resource books I have come across: A Parent’s Guide to Gifted Children, by James T. Webb, et al. I highly recommend this book as a high-level overview of parenting a gifted kid. It covers everything–the good, the bad, the ugly. From there, you’ll figure out which areas you need more information about, and which ones don’t really affect your kid as much (right now).
We try to share lots of relevant and helpful information on our Facebook page, as well. Please “like” us if you haven’t already. I’d love to see more of your input and comments on the articles we share!
